Want to go canoeing with your family? Check out our family trip Canoe Tribe.

Can my dog come along?

We love animals! So your dog is more than welcome to join you on this canoe trip. You don't need to notify us in advance. Just keep in mind that your dog can only come along if you are traveling by private transport. Dogs are not allowed on the bus or plane.

At the campsite and in nature, dogs must always be kept on a leash.

We also highly recommend bringing a life jacket for your dog, as we only have life jackets for people available.

Please note that dogs are not allowed in rented camping gear. We ask that you bring your own camping equipment if you are coming with your dog.

What if I can no longer go on my booked trip?

Do you want to be fully covered until the departure date? Then choose our regular cancellation insurance (€ 59) during booking.

You can find all the terms of our cancellation insurance here.

If you booked early and received our Superflex booking conditions for free, you can change or cancel your booking for free until April 1, 2024 without having to provide a reason.

Where can I park?

A parking spot at the base camp is included in the price. However, parking is limited, so try to carpool as much as possible. That way, we can also contribute a little to a cleaner planet. ?

What time can I check in and check out?

Are you coming by your own transport? Then the briefing starts at 9 AM. You'll head straight out onto the water after the briefing, so you can still enjoy a full day of paddling.

Make sure to be on time for the briefing. It’s possible to stay at the base camp the night before as well.

Can we participate with an odd number?

The Canoe Trip can only be booked with an even number of people. The reason for this is that our canoes are specially designed to accommodate two people. If you're in an odd number, you can always make a call for an extra travel companion in our Canoe Tripper Facebook Group. There might be someone who wants to join you.

Is this canoe holiday a group trip or a self-guided adventure?

During our canoe holiday, you are completely free to choose your own route. You don’t have to consider anything or anyone and navigate yourself using the map we provide.
You will also receive a sample route with tips for places to stay each night. You are not obligated to follow this route and can also camp wild at other locations.

There is always a ranger at the base camp, who is available for questions or in case of emergency.

Is there reception on the water?

In almost the entire area, you'll have mobile reception. So, you can always reach the rangers in case of an emergency or just call home occasionally. Just make sure to bring a good power bank, as you won't have access to electricity to charge your phone during your trip.

May I fish?

Fishing is allowed throughout the region with a fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license here. With this license, you can fish in all the lakes; without it, fishing is not permitted. You can also buy a fishing license for 200 SEK or 20 euros upon arrival at our base camp. Additionally, you can rent fishing gear here.

What should I do in case of emergency?

In case of a medical issue or other emergency, you can always contact the ranger on-site. In the app, you'll find an SOS button that will alert the ranger. For life-threatening situations, we recommend calling 112.

The ranger will either come to you directly to provide assistance or send a medical service your way.

When you book, you can choose to add travel insurance to your booking. This way, you won’t have to worry if something happens during your trip. You can find the exact terms of the insurance here.

What about sanitation?

Showers and toilets are only available on the arrival day and the last night of The Canoe Trip at the base camp.

During The Canoe Trip, nature is your bathroom. We will provide you with a small bottle of eco-friendly biodegradable soap. Be sure to bring some additional soap as well, so we can keep nature intact.

There is always a dry toilet available at the shelters for you to use.

Do I have to pay right after registering?

We ask for a deposit of 30% of the total travel amount to be made within 5 days of registration. The remaining amount must be paid no later than 30 days before departure.

Offsetting CO2 emissions

Give back to nature via Greentripper

The planet gives us so much beauty to admire, but if we want to keep enjoying it for a long time, we need to protect it today. That's why we make extra efforts to reduce the impact of our trips, and you can reliably offset the CO2 emissions of your journey through Greentripper in the booking form.

By contributing to their certified climate project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect beautiful forests and their wildlife, support local communities, and plant enough trees to offset your CO2 emissions with oxygen. If you choose CO2 offsetting, Travelbase will also offset the emissions on-site, and you'll receive an official carbon credit certificate after your trip.

Read more about our efforts at travelbase.eu/impact.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

For the rental of the equipment (canoe, cooking set, etc.), we ask for a deposit of €200 per canoe. If you return everything in the same condition as you received it, the deposit will be refunded within 15 working days after the end of the trip.

Can I do The Canoe Trip on my own?

For safety reasons, it's not possible to book this trip alone. Additionally, our canoes are specially designed for two people. I'm sure you can find someone who wants to embark on this adventure with you!

When does the bus leave and how long is the ride?

If you booked a trip with an arrival date on Saturday, the bus will depart on Friday at 11 AM from Brussels and at 3 PM from Utrecht. The departure from our base camp back home is on Saturday evening. The bus will arrive on Sunday in the late afternoon or evening.

If you booked a trip with an arrival date on Wednesday, the bus will leave on Tuesday at 11 AM from Brussels and at 3 PM from Utrecht. The departure from our base camp back home is on Wednesday evening. The bus will arrive on Thursday in the late afternoon or evening.

The bus ride to our base camps takes about 20-22 hours (from Brussels) including breaks. The exact travel time will obviously depend on the pickup location, the weather, and traffic along the way.

How do I get drinking water?

In Värmland, the water from the lakes is not drinkable everywhere. You can always boil the water with your cooking set before refilling your bottle. Unsure? For extra safety, bring water purification tablets.
