Like a return to your roots, The Family Canoe Trip invites you on an adventure in the heart of Värmland-Nordmarken, a territory where children are the true explorers. Discover preserved places together, away from the beaten path, and reconnect with what matters: nature.
Your odyssey begins at the base camp with a complete briefing that will perfectly prepare you for the start of the adventure: understanding the route, mastering your canoe, getting to know the equipment, and ensuring your safety. Participate in activities that spark curiosity, learn bushcraft techniques, and end your days around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing your adventure moments.

Every day, you paddle between 10 and 20 kilometers. Don't worry, it's a distance suitable and accessible for families with children from 8 years old. Younger kids under 8 are also welcome, but from 8 years old, we consider they are ready to paddle! If needed, an extra seat can be added, allowing for a third person. Our itinerary remains flexible: you can choose to paddle at a leisurely pace or take on a challenge, each kilometer will be experienced at your own rhythm.
The days are built around simple and authentic activities: wood carving with branches collected on site, treasure hunts in the forest, techniques for starting a campfire, bread baked directly on the embers, etc.
Set off to discover the Swedish lakes by canoe. Start with a canoeing introduction on the lake from the basecamp, then explore the beauty of Sweden during your multi-day stay.
In the evening, what could be better than warming up around a campfire? Have you ever tried to start a fire with flint? And of course, marshmallows are part of the fun!
With a fishing license, you can fish all week and try to catch pike, perch, or bream. This license is available at the base camp. Who knows, maybe you'll enjoy some freshly caught fish during your water adventure?
At the end of the day, our team often organizes activities. It's the perfect opportunity for parents to enjoy a moment of peace in front of their tent.

Every day, prepare your meal in the great outdoors with the cooking kit we provide. But what could be better than cooking directly over the campfire? Roast bread on a stick and treat yourself to delicious homemade cinnamon rolls, baked over the coals.
And while paddling, you might catch a glimpse of deer, moose, foxes, or even ospreys. The wildlife in Sweden is amazing! Will you be able to spot all the animal tracks mentioned in the Explorers' notebook?

For a successful adventure, good nutrition is essential! That’s why we’ve designed a week of meals, including all breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the duration of the adventure. Whether you’re a vegetarian or a meat lover, we’ve thought of everything, including handy and nutritious freeze-dried meals, to cater to your tastes and needs. Be sure to add the food pack to your reservation for peace of mind!

It's important to travel light, as everything needs to fit in the canoe. The less you bring, the easier navigation and land travel will be. An ideal maximum weight is 15 kg per person!
By car
The base camp for the Family Canoe Trip is located at Outpost North, right by the water, near the Swedish village of Bengtsfors.
This heavily wooded region, at the heart of nature, boasts an extensive network of lakes and rivers. It's the perfect spot for a canoeing adventure.
From Belgium, you can expect about 16 to 19 hours of driving to reach Outpost North. We recommend taking the ferry between Puttgarden and Rødby.

By plane
If you prefer to travel by plane, Oslo Gardermoen Airport is an option. The easiest way is to rent a car at the airport to get to the base camp. Another option is to take a Flixbus to Årjäng, and then book a shuttle to the base camp.
Nights during the Family Canoe Trip
During your canoe adventure, some nights will be spent at our base camp and others in bivouac areas in the great outdoors. On certain days, you'll enjoy the sanitary facilities of the camp, while on other days, you'll get back to basics with only dry toilets nearby.
When booking your vacation, you can choose to add the following options to your trip.

A good diet is important during a sports trip! That's why we've created a food pack that meets all your needs during this adventure. It's a combination of freeze-dried meals, simple one-pot dishes, and snacks. We offer a vegetarian version as well as a meat version.
For kids, we've created a separate version, filled with meals suitable for children. Is your child a big eater? Then go for the adult food pack.

Don't have camping gear or prefer not to bring too much stuff to Sweden? No problem! With us, you can rent quality camping equipment for your trip. We'll provide you with a tent (for 2 people), a sleeping bag with a liner, and a mattress.
Since we recommend taking as little gear as possible in the canoe, you'll receive a tent for two family members if you rent camping gear for two people. Additionally, to help you with your preparations, we've put together a packing list that summarizes all the essentials for your journey.
Note: Please bring your own pillow.
Dogs are not allowed in the rented tents. Traveling with your furry friend? Then be sure to bring your own camping gear.

At the base camp, a limited number of fishing rods are available for rent. A kit includes: a rod, a fishing line, and lures. You can't add this to your reservation in advance, but you can rent it on-site.
Of course, you can also bring your own fishing gear. We recommend bringing spinners and/or shads as bait.
With the Family Canoe Trip, every day is a new adventure. Of course, paddling will be a central activity, but that's not all! Check out an example schedule for the week below.

If one of the children is old and strong enough to paddle with an adult, an extra seat can be added in the canoe for the second child. The second adult paddles alone in a kayak.
